Why Our Leather Costs More – and Why It's Worth It
We use vegetable-tanned, full-grain Italian leather — and that makes a big difference in quality, durability, and how your cover ages over time.
Genuine Leather vs. Full Grain Leather
• Genuine leather is a misleading term — it's actually lower quality. It’s made from leftover layers of hide after the top (and strongest) layer has been removed. It's often heavily processed and doesn't last nearly as long.
• Full-grain leather is the highest quality leather available. It comes from the top layer of the hide and includes all the natural grain. It’s stronger, more durable, and develops a beautiful patina over time.
Vegetable-Tanned vs. Chrome-Tanned
• Vegetable-tanned leather is tanned using natural plant-based tannins, a traditional and time-intensive process. It takes several weeks but results in leather that's more eco-friendly, firm yet flexible, and ages beautifully.
• Chrome-tanned leather, which is used in most mass-market goods, is processed in just a day using harsh chemicals. It’s quicker and cheaper but doesn’t last as long and often lacks character.
Why It Costs More
• We source ethically made, premium Italian leather.
• Every piece is hand-stitched and made to order.
• Vegetable tanning and full-grain quality add cost—but they also mean your leather cover is built to last for decades, not just a few years.
